The choice reduces to three linked questions: how large a ship can be built, how many mountings that ship can accommodate, and how the fleet can support them. The second question includes battle damage, because more numerous turrets can leave a ship with usable guns after hits that would cripple a more concentrated battery. A five-twin ship loses 20 percent of its battery with one turret, whereas a four-triple ship loses 25 percent. Game mechanics can reward choices that would not make sense under historical World War I or World War II requirements.

Three questions before adding more turrets
Before maximizing armament, ask whether the hull can carry the turret, how many fit, and whether the navy can sustain them.
