The Thousand-Ship Navy as an allied fleet

A US response to naval construction shortfalls counted allied fleets as part of a wider Thousand-Ship Navy.

Notes

An American response to naval construction shortfalls counted allied fleets within a Thousand-Ship Navy instead of limiting the total to US hulls. Britain, France, Australia, Canada, Japan, and other European partners could contribute useful high-end units. Those ships could strengthen the coalition even when their capabilities differed from American vessels. Allied capacity therefore belongs in force-structure calculations, and one navy's inventory gives an incomplete picture of coalition strength.
