The constant missions of naval aviation

Aircraft designs will change, but naval aviation will remain centred on information, force security, and strike.

Notes

The Wildcat's eventual success shows how a rejected or immature design can become useful after development and operational experience. Grumman continued refining it after an initial rejection, and combat disappointment with its competitor led the US Navy back to the improved design. The Wildcat then became the ancestor of the Hellcat and Bearcat, demonstrating why planners should avoid treating one early result as final. Whether future naval aircraft are crewed or uncrewed, information warfare, force protection, and strike remain linked missions.
