Titanic's warning for modern mega-ships

The closing argument uses modern cruise ships to ask whether technical ambition, scale, and safety margins remain properly matched.

Notes

Titanic's legacy includes a warning about technological confidence outstripping practical safeguards. Wonder of the Seas is an engineering achievement with eighteen decks, thousands of passengers and crew, extensive leisure spaces, electric propulsion pods, and powerful bow thrusters. That scale also produces a very tall, hotel-heavy superstructure and a population comparable to a small town, making evacuation and stability serious concerns. Admiration for the machinery does not settle whether such a specialized resort ship suits every sea condition. A vessel's operating environment and safety margin matter more than size or technical sophistication alone.
