Tactical victories still leave the Ottoman army supplied

A striking Venetian ship action and a year-long blockade inflicted losses, but alternate supply routes kept the Ottoman army in Crete alive.

Notes

Morosini's ship reportedly fought a much larger Ottoman galley force and inflicted exceptional damage. The ship survived even though Morosini was killed, while the Ottomans lost their commander and suffered severe damage across much of the galley force. Even a successful year-long closure of the straits did not cut Crete off, because supplies could come from Alexandria, Cyprus, and other Ottoman-held Aegean positions. Control of one maritime choke point did not amount to control of every route feeding the campaign.
