Carriers would change the battleship duel

Carrier aircraft and spotters could decide a battle-line engagement by giving one side markedly better observation and fall-of-shot correction.

Notes

The scenario introduces carrier aviation into a 1920s battleship confrontation. Even early aircraft such as Blackburn spotters could provide observation that improves the side able to launch and keep them airborne. Better fall-of-shot correction would increase hit probability during a long-range battle-line engagement. Naval aviation could therefore affect who sees first and who corrects heavy-gun fire effectively before aircraft were capable of sinking a battleship themselves.
