Suffolk’s Arctic refit and Eastern Fleet service

Suffolk moved from Arctic service to an anti-aircraft-heavy refit and Indian Ocean duty with the Eastern Fleet.

Notes

After the Bismarck operation, Suffolk served with the Home Fleet in Arctic waters through the end of 1942. A refit removed X turret, the second turret from aft, and used the released topweight for additional anti-aircraft weapons. She then joined the Eastern Fleet in the Indian Ocean and remained there until the end of the war. Suffolk subsequently transported military and civilian personnel home from Australia and the Far East before making a final voyage to Singapore. The refit traded part of her original gun battery for the additional air defence demanded by a different theatre.
