Using a carrier lift as a crane can obstruct its main job

Using an aircraft lift for crane work saves dedicated equipment but can leave the lift unavailable for normal aircraft movements.

Notes

Tracking cranes in a carrier hangar take up weight and space. A French carrier arrangement sought to save both by using aircraft lifts to perform lifting work as well. An aircraft suspended beneath the lift would then obstruct its use for other tasks. The apparent saving creates an operational conflict because the same equipment is needed for two jobs.
