The Sterling replaced the Sten under formal requirements

The Sten's successor connects an individual designer with a manufacturer and formal Army requirements.

Notes

The Sterling was the successor to the Sten. Its development followed Army General Staff requirements, adding a formal procurement framework to the comparison with wartime simplification. George William Patchett is named from research notes as its designer. Those notes also identify the Sterling Armament Company at Dagenham as the producer.
