The Grey-named Steam Gun Boats included Grey Seal, Grey Fox, Grey Owl, Grey Shark, Grey Wolf, and Grey Goose, the surviving hull. Wartime images of Grey Goose and Grey Fox show that boats of the same small class could acquire visibly different armament. Heavy modification during service makes a single standard silhouette misleading. Grey Goose's later life as a houseboat also demonstrates how civilian conversion could preserve a rare combat craft after the Navy no longer needed it.
