Stealth shaping changes hulls and topsides

Angled surfaces and clean topsides reduce the radar return, while the same design priorities influence hull proportions and bow shapes.

Notes

Modern surface combatants often share angular, clean-sided shapes because designers are trying to reduce the radar energy returned to an emitter. Radar still reaches the ship, but sloped surfaces scatter more of it away from the source. Railings and other exposed fittings create unwanted returns, which favors cleaner topsides. The same pressure influences length-to-beam ratios and renewed interest in bow forms whose geometry produces a smaller return.
