USS Stark survived two Exocet hits from an Iraqi aircraft in 1987 and remained in service until 1999. Its radar did not detect the incoming missiles; a lookout gave warning. Survival therefore needs to be distinguished from successful detection or interception. USS Samuel B. Roberts survived severe mine damage without deaths, although ten sailors required medical treatment. Repairs returned the ship to service, which continued until 2015. USS Simpson used SM-1 missiles in the action against the Iranian patrol craft Joshan. These cases support the assessment of the Perry as a tough basic escort with useful combat capability.
