Starfleet retains much the same combination of phasers and torpedoes across long stretches of Star Trek's fictional history. Discovery's uncrewed ships and the fighter wings in Deep Space Nine provide welcome additions to that weapons mix. Dedicated fighters also offer an alternative to sending a whole shuttle whenever one person needs a small craft. The criticism concerns the limited variety of craft and weapons available for different missions.
