Question

Do large navies keep updated battleship designs available just in case?

Short answer

It would be plausible contingency work, comparable to maintaining war plans, but no direct knowledge of such designs is claimed.

Notes

A viewer suggests that major naval design bureaus keep notional battleship plans available and regularly update them. This would be plausible contingency work. The comparison is with armies maintaining war plans for situations that may never arise. No direct knowledge of such naval plans is claimed.
