Chapter · 3:45:53-3:46:49

Standardization and light-cruiser vulnerability in the battle line

A fleet action shows both the coordination value of a standardized capital-ship line and the danger facing a light cruiser caught between battle lines.

Notes

A standardized battle line avoids the coordination problems created by capital ships with sharply different fighting characteristics. Similar ships can maneuver and employ their guns more consistently as a formation. An enemy light cruiser then runs between the two battle lines. The cruiser is large enough to attract primary-battery fire but lacks the protection to endure it, making its position a warning about placing light forces inside a capital-ship engagement.
