The book ranges across the SAS, Long Range Desert Group, SBS, Arctic commandos, Saint-Nazaire, Dieppe, Cockleshell Heroes, Italian underwater raiders, and other wartime operations. Photographs and a readable narrative make this breadth approachable to someone new to the subject. Each operation receives enough detail to explain why it matters without pretending to replace specialist histories. A reader can use the survey to choose a campaign or unit for deeper study.
