Why proposed saint names for British capital ships are doubtful

The book's saint-name claims are tested against Royal Navy naming practice, contemporary politics, and later naming choices.

Notes

The claimed names fit poorly with the sparse use of several saint names and with the political awkwardness of naming a ship for Ireland's patron saint during the early 1920s. Admiral names fit the available naming patterns better. The often-repeated saint-name claim should therefore remain unproven rather than being treated as established fact.
