Škoda built the guns and turrets for the Tegetthoff-class battleships. The firm was a major weapons manufacturer, and these ships depended on its heavy armaments work. Its later familiarity as a car maker can obscure that earlier role. The example connects Austro-Hungarian naval construction with the specialist industrial capacity needed to supply a battleship's main battery.
