An earlier peace also leaves dangerous lessons unlearned

An earlier peace could reduce losses and encourage trade with Japan, while leaving some anti-submarine lessons to be learned in a later war.

Notes

An earlier peace could leave Britain and its allies in a stronger economic and demographic position and draw Japan more deeply into Allied trade. Some of the losses and pressures of late 1917 and 1918 would be avoided. The anti-submarine campaign might not become as severe, leaving navies without some of the experience they gained historically. On that assumption, lessons missed in the shorter war would have to be learned in a later conflict.
