Did you teach a full American Civil War course in Britain?
Short answerYes: the whole war as an A-level module, as well as Civil War material within university naval-history teaching.
NotesAlex Clarke taught the entire American Civil War to A-level students and selected aspects at universities. At King's, the war appeared within a naval-history course as a two-hour lecture with seminar groups. He prefers marking subjects that interest him without being closely tied to his own published research, because attachment to particular answers could influence assessment. He will lecture on aircraft carriers or ship design while declining to mark the resulting papers. The Civil War and First World War are subjects he is comfortable teaching and assessing, while his stronger research commitments make him more cautious about the interwar period and Second World War.
