High-mounted radar weight needs balance lower in the ship. The array also brings extensive cabling, computers, operator stations and electrical generation. Reliability calculations for ordinary faults do not cover enemy action against a warship. Extra radar faces can provide overlapping coverage, although the simplified example explicitly stops short of claiming a full 180 degrees from each face. Redundancy must extend through power supplies and other supporting equipment, increasing the space requirement.

Radar support and wartime redundancy add hull volume
A radar installation needs structural balance, cabling, computers, power and redundancy against enemy damage.
