Armsmen can move throughout the ship as internal security troops, but many voidsmen remain attached to one specialist section. Their accommodation, food, work, and social world may all lie within that compartment, leaving them unable to navigate a part of the vessel only a few hundred metres away. Below them are indentured labour gangs used to move and operate enormous weapons by hand. The arrangement turns the ship into a collection of isolated communities and substitutes coerced manpower for automation.
