Seaplanes as a Jutland scouting problem

German seaplanes could provide earlier warning of the Grand Fleet if their parent ships slowed enough to operate them.

Question

How might better German use of seaplane carriers have changed Jutland?

Short answer

They could provide earlier warning and prompt withdrawal, provided their parent ships slowed enough to operate the aircraft. Main-fleet placement is the preferred option.

Notes

Placing seaplane carriers with the main fleet would give it another source of reconnaissance. If they instead accompanied the scouting force, its speed would make aircraft operations difficult. Slowing down would allow the scouts to use their seaplanes too. Earlier detection of the Grand Fleet could prompt the Germans to withdraw after the run south and run north, before the general fleet battle developed.
