Chapter · 36:28-37:40

Sea Furies in Commonwealth carrier operations over Korea

Sea Furies flew from four Commonwealth carriers to support troops ashore, alongside Fairey Fireflies and other wartime-derived aircraft.

Notes

The Korean War became the Sea Fury's best-known campaign. Aircraft from HMS Glory, HMS Theseus, HMS Ocean, and HMAS Sydney provided fire support to forces ashore, demonstrating why a dependable carrier fighter-bomber still mattered in the early jet era. Fairey Fireflies worked alongside them as attack aircraft, extending the usefulness of wartime-derived types. The use of invasion stripes after a Sea Fury was shot down by a B-29 Superfortress also illustrates the dangerous identification problems faced during the conflict.
