Sea Ceptor is being added as a separate installation for shorter-range engagements. Taking over that role from Aster 15 would allow the existing Aster battery to carry Aster 30 throughout. The two Aster versions share enough of their design for the explanation to describe changing between them by adding or removing booster units. That description is deliberately simplified: software and other details also have to be addressed. Their commonality nevertheless makes the change in missile mix more practical.
