Cheap small craft still face open-ocean limits

A Sea Baby cost comparison leaves out sea conditions, conspicuous mass production and an opponent's response.

Notes

A viewer's comparison suggests buying nearly 27,000 Sea Baby craft for the price of a carrier. What those numbers would achieve at sea remains the disputed point. A 20-foot vessel faces conditions very different from the 80- to 120-foot torpedo boats used in World War II. Exceptional small-boat ocean crossings do not establish reliable wartime operation. Building that many craft would also advertise the investment, giving an opponent reason to procure more 57 mm or 76 mm guns.
