How scout cruiser orders spread shipbuilding knowledge

Even an imperfect first generation gave multiple shipyards the experience from which later British light cruisers could develop.

Notes

The first scout cruisers provided a practical starting point for later designs. The Royal Navy could test flotilla support before ordering successors in much larger numbers. Giving eight ships to four firms distributed design and construction knowledge across several yards and regions. That breadth helped the state develop a large maritime industrial base while keeping experience in more than one builder. On this reading, the ships established part of the technical foundation for the Town, C, D, and E class light cruisers that followed.
