San Sebastián honours reveal naval support ashore

In 1813, Collier's squadron evacuated troops, supported General Graham, and blockaded the French-held town of San Sebastián.

Notes

Sir George Collier's squadron first removed a hard-pressed British garrison from the Santander area and carried it to safety. The ships then cooperated with General Thomas Graham during the reduction of San Sebastián. A weeks-long blockade helped isolate the French-held town until its surrender in September 1813. The reference distinguishes ships awarded the honour from additional vessels and gunboats mentioned in dispatches. The contribution of those additional craft is unclear.
