Why Royal Navy destroyers had to serve globally

The Tribal class was not built only for the Arctic; Royal Navy design had to accommodate rough water and rapid transfer across a worldwide network.

Notes

The Tribal class was not designed specifically for Arctic service. Royal Navy ships had to move among home waters, dominions, colonies, the North Atlantic, and the South Atlantic rather than remain optimized for one theater. Rough British coastal waters and the South Atlantic already demanded strong seakeeping. Preparing the same hull for Arctic operations extended a global-service requirement rather than creating a wholly separate design mission.
