British conversions develop night flying for worldwide operations

Furious, Courageous, and Glorious helped develop night operations and carrier methods for Britain's commitments across several oceans.

Notes

Furious, Courageous, and Glorious were already worn by heavy use when the Royal Navy considered their future in the late 1930s. They had helped develop carrier methods for the North Sea and North Atlantic as well as the Mediterranean and Far East. Britain needed doctrine that could work wherever its fleet deployed, which gave it different demands from a navy concentrated in one ocean. Night strikes and night flying were central to that work. Glorious conducted frequent night operations in the Mediterranean, while all three conversions contributed to the methods later carriers would inherit.
