A commander's-eye history of the China Station

A book recommendation traces the Royal Navy's China Station through the careers and records of its commanders.

Notes

The Royal Navy in the China Station, 1864-1941 follows the station through its commanders, reports, ships, and daily decisions. The volume draws on extensive archival references, with HMS Hawkins's log providing one concrete example of its source base. Its command-centred structure opens onto the Yangtze, China, and the wider British Pacific presence, including accounts involving Ernest King and Isoroku Yamamoto. The station remained distinct until the Pacific War began in December 1941, when its forces became part of the Far East Fleet. A minor problem with some officers' listed ranks does not outweigh the book's strong research value.
