Chapter · 3:34:39-3:36:35

Rodney from the Mediterranean to Normandy

After Bismarck, Rodney continued through Mediterranean operations and the Normandy landings until wartime strain made a major repair uneconomic.

Notes

The Bismarck action was not the end of Rodney's fighting career. After repairs in the United States and work-up at Bermuda, she joined Force H and participated in major Mediterranean operations during 1942 and 1943. In 1944 her 16-inch guns supported Operation Overlord and the Normandy landings, giving the old battleship a direct role in amphibious warfare. By the end of the conflict the combination of heavy use, leaks, and worn machinery left her useful as a contingency flagship but too expensive to restore for long-term service.
