Early RNAS roles from reconnaissance to armoured cars

The RNAS began with fleet reconnaissance and coastal patrol, then expanded into armoured-car work that points toward Churchill's later tank initiative.

Notes

The RNAS's initial maritime jobs were fleet reconnaissance, coastal patrol, submarine spotting, and attacks on enemy coastal territory. These roles tied aircraft directly to fleet intelligence and coastal operations. The service quickly expanded outside direct naval support, including an armoured-car section for recovering downed pilots. That experiment also leads into Churchill's later involvement with tanks.
