River-class production grew from an intended trial order of thirty to 151 completed ships, with only two cancellations. That expansion is practical evidence that wartime users considered the design successful. The class stepped beyond trawlers, Flower-class corvettes, and Castle-class corvettes while remaining simpler to reproduce than a full naval-built escort. It offered much of a Black Swan sloop's anti-submarine value without demanding the same specialist construction. Unlike Hunt-class destroyers, Rivers could be built in civilian yards and reproduced through the expanded shipbuilding capacity of Canada and Australia.
