Choosing battles by the odds

Campaign play is compared to poker: avoid closing with a better-armed battleship when the odds are unfavourable.

Notes

The commentary frames operational decision-making as managing risk instead of taking every available fight. A battlecruiser facing a battleship with heavier guns is directed to withdraw, using speed to create space rather than relying on a close-range contest. Several unfavourable campaign engagements are refused for the same reason, preserving ships for operations where their strengths matter. The sequence distinguishes a ship's theoretical capability from the situations in which its commander should commit it.
