The Ripon II's undercarriage and torpedo clearance

The Ripon II combined a larger balanced rudder with a new bent-axle undercarriage that left room beneath the fuselage for a torpedo.

Notes

The Ripon II had a taller balanced rudder with substantially more area than its predecessor. Its new undercarriage used a bent axle on each side, attached to the lower longerons. This left space beneath the fuselage for the torpedo. Telescopic oleo-pneumatic legs extended to fittings at the outboard ends of the lower centre-section front spar.
