Reserves for P-8 and mine warfare

Reserve formations could retain platforms and skills that Britain cannot keep fully manned in peacetime, from P-8 aircraft to minesweeping forces.

Notes

The proposal replaces the usual choice between a fully regular capability and disposal with a trained reserve. Because the P-8 is derived from a commercial airliner, airline pilots could provide reserve flying capacity after the necessary military training. Mine-clearance divers already show how reservists can support mine warfare. The model would require larger, properly formed reserve units, with the aircraft, ships, and skills kept ready for activation.
