Logistics ships and refit rotation in a reserve fleet

Reserve auxiliaries expand wartime supply capacity, while spare combatants can rotate into service during major refits without expanding the peacetime crew bill.

Notes

Wartime operations demand longer and more intensive supply lines, making reserve logistics and merchant capacity especially valuable. A Type 45 example shows how three reserve hulls could keep six operational ships available during deep refits. Rotating less-used ships into the active fleet would distribute wear across the class and extend service life. Dockside reserve hulls could also support training and supply spare parts before reservists expand the wartime force.
