Not every 74 in Cochrane's force was a captured French design. HMS Sceptre belonged to the eleven-ship British Repulse class, armed with 32-pounders on the lower gun deck and 18-pounders above. Sceptre completes the three officially identified 74s supporting the operation. Placing her beside Pompée and Abercrombie makes the squadron's mixed material origins visible. The battle line combined domestic construction with captured French hulls rather than depending on a single national design tradition.
