Renown's long Second World War service

Renown's reconstruction helped keep her useful across Force H, convoy, Mediterranean, Atlantic, and Eastern Fleet operations.

Notes

The video follows Renown from blockade-runner and German-raider searches through Force H operations and Malta support. She fought at Cape Spartivento, bombarded Genoa, intercepted the German supply ship Gonzenheim, and covered Arctic and Mediterranean convoys. Later service included Operation Torch, transporting Churchill and his staff, and Eastern Fleet work from Colombo. In the Indian Ocean she served as a battle-squadron flagship and bombarded Japanese facilities in the Nicobar and Andaman Islands. Her survival and breadth of employment form the counterpoint to Repulse's loss: modernisation, air defence, and timing made the sisters diverge sharply.
