Why Renown edges Hood as a favourite battlecruiser

Renown is preferred to Hood because her refitted, long World War II service demonstrated what a capable battlecruiser could still do.

Notes

The comparison acknowledges Hood's fame and appearance but puts greater weight on Renown's operational record. The modernised Renown kept contributing through the whole of the Second World War rather than becoming a symbol whose career was cut short. The two-word term battle cruiser also reflects the type's place in the Royal Navy's wider cruiser hierarchy.
