The Renown design converts to oil fuel and improved turbines so it can reach 28 knots. Ammunition, anti-flooding protection, steering gear, and armor are upgraded while displacement and weight balance remain under review. Extra secondary guns use the remaining capacity without sacrificing the intended long range. The completed refit treats speed, protection, firepower, endurance, and stability as one naval-architecture problem rather than independent improvements.
