A slower battleship would have constrained the carrier's movements, especially when the carrier needed wind over the deck to launch aircraft. Renown could maintain speed while zigzagging, allowing the carrier to keep a tactically useful pace. Fleet composition depended on compatible mobility as well as nominal firepower.
