Chapter · 5:06-6:16

Reconnaissance, a world cruise, and naval education

Operations in Albania, a round-the-world cruise in Libia, and leadership of the naval academy combined aviation, navigation, and officer education in Burzagli's career.

Notes

In 1919 Burzagli took an active role against a pro-independence uprising in Albania and personally flew several reconnaissance missions. He had learned to fly and operated military and naval aircraft himself. Burzagli then commanded the cruiser Libia from 1921 to 1923 on a voyage around the world. After returning, he headed the Accademia Navale and an Italian naval institute, placing him in charge of professional education. His four-volume navigation treatise, published in 1927, shows how practical seamanship and teaching accompanied his later leadership.
