Rebuilding the Soviet battleship around 1930 constraints

A second build starts from a 1930 programme and combines a 31-knot target, imported protection, mixed secondaries, torpedoes, and contemporary ammunition and mounting choices.

Notes

Restarting the ship as a 1930 programme allows a 31-knot target and a more coherent set of assumptions. Foreign help supplies the armour and protection technology, while the armament retains six-inch and four-inch secondaries plus quad torpedo launchers. Electro-hydraulic mountings, a larger shell allowance, slightly heavier shells, and Cordite No. 2 complete the interwar equipment fit. Each choice has to be balanced against displacement and fore-and-aft weight. The German comparison ship is then strengthened to twelve 11-inch guns, making the battle a contest between two deliberately constructed counterfactuals. The sequence shows how speed, protection, weapons, imported technology, and displacement compete in capital-ship design.
