Sir Ragnar Colvin returned to Britain because of failing health after senior appointments that included Chief of the Australian Naval Staff, president of the Royal Naval College at Greenwich, and command of the Second Battle Squadron. Medical retirement did not end his contribution. He served as naval adviser to the Australian High Commission and pressed Australia's requirements within the British system. His work kept Australian needs for equipment, radar, technology, and information visible in London. Colvin was no longer fit for operational command, yet he remained effective in strategic liaison.
