Why historians keep longer lists of questions than answers

Research keeps generating questions, while good teaching is linked to a willingness to keep learning.

Notes

The destroyer study produced about two sides of A4 filled with further questions. Some have been answered through research for videos or books in progress; others remain for future projects. Work on these later projects produces still more questions, making continued inquiry part of historical practice. In this view, historians should pass on what they learn, and good teachers must also remain willing students. The result is often a longer list of questions than answers.
