Question

How much did Lord Louis Mountbatten influence Prince Philip's wartime naval career?

Short answer

The video presents the wartime career as largely independent, noting that Philip served far from his uncle and many ranks below him.

Notes

Philip's wartime postings do not show Lord Louis Mountbatten directing his career. He served far from his uncle and many levels below him. This evidence concerns the wartime sequence of ships and theatres; it does not settle every possible family influence. The service record still gives little support to a simple patronage explanation.
