Could a CH-53K King Stallion be converted into a platform able to perform anti-submarine and airborne-warning missions?
Short answerThe large helicopter has ample space to carry mission equipment derived from Merlin installations.
NotesThe King Stallion offers much more cabin volume than the aircraft from which many naval sensor packages were developed. Physical room for anti-submarine and warning equipment is the easy part of the proposal. The harder work would lie in integrating sensors, consoles, power, communications, weapons, and trained operators into a reliable maritime system. The conversion is plausible, although empty space alone does not create the finished aircraft.
