What is your opinion of the Dutch Dolfijn class of 1954?
Short answerIt was a good and inventive design for its time, with a three-cylinder hull, eight tubes, and useful minelaying capability.
NotesThe class used one main pressure hull and two smaller pressure cylinders, an unusual but practical arrangement. Four bow and four stern tubes gave the boat balanced torpedo armament. It could also lay later-generation mines through those torpedo tubes, a capability absent from the interwar designs discussed earlier. The class and the related Potvis boats show Dutch designers absorbing wartime experience into a distinctive Cold War submarine.
